Prior to admission, the child will attend the school for a 2 week observation/evaluation period. Please note that this observation will only take place by appointment. Contact the school to make the necessary arrangements.
After the 2 week attendance, the school will give feedback to the parents and a decision will be made if the child will likely benefit from the school environment or not, whereupon admission shall take place.
Each class at the Boland School for Autism accommodates a maximum of 8 learners, ensuring individualized attention and support for every child.
We strive to follow an adapted CAPS-curriculum (as followed by most government schools) as far as possible. However, for many of our learners, it is not possible to follow a formal, rigid curriculum. This is why goals are set according to each learner’s unique challenges and strengths.
Specific programmes are developed with input from the multidisciplinary team, which includes a social worker, occupational therapist, and speech therapist, working collaboratively with the teachers. For our non-curriculum class, we have designed a programme focused on life skills and world knowledge to help these learners function as independently, and confidently as possible. Additionally, we offer a social skills programme facilitated by the social worker in group settings.
In 2025, we will launch a vocabulary programme compiled by the speech therapist. These are just some of the programmes and strategies we use to support the development of our learners, complemented by many other tailored approaches and strategies.
The Boland School for Autism is a dual-medium school, accommodating both Afrikaans and English learners within the same class.
